Lake Hévíz

Lake Hévíz is the largest bathing suitable, peat mud-bottomed thermal lake on the world. It waits with its green surroundings for those wish to heal, recreate and relax. The water is excellent for locomotor diseases besides it recharges the tired organism as well. It can be visited with the purchase of an entrance ticket. The temperature of the water during winter is 22-25 °C and during summer it reaches 32-38 °C, therefore we can swim outdoor in a natural environment all year. The water lily is the symbol of the Lake which is a protected plant; it was introduced at the end of the 19th century. The surface of the water is 4.4 ha, which is surrounded with more than 40 ha protective forest. From the 38 meter deep spring 40 000 liter, 39.5 °C water crushes the surface minutely so the water of the Lake entirely replaces in every 3 days. The Lake is biologically active, for instance the little Grebe inhabits the area among others. It is easy to swim round the Lake and we can also hold on railings. Many people use floating rings/tubes so it is not stressful for us to stay in the water. The average depth of the water is 1.5-2 meters. We can put our legs into the curative mud at several points on the edge of the Lake. The extra water from the lake flows to the Zala River then to the Lake Balaton, by the Berki Promanade.
